Cathedral of Hope's Drag Sunday And The Betrayal Of Biblical Christianity

A church is meant to be a house of prayer, a place of reverence where the Word of God is upheld and truth is preached. Yet, the Cathedral of Hope in Dallas, Texas, has transformed itself into something unrecognizable--a platform for celebrating sin under the guise of faith.
Their latest "Drag Sunday" service, followed by an 18+ drag brunch, is just the latest example of a church that has fully embraced apostasy. Rather than calling sinners to repentance, they are glorifying what God calls shameful. Rather than preaching the Gospel, they are platforming performers who mock biblical values. This is not just a theological misstep; it is an outright betrayal of Christianity itself.
A House of Worship or a Den of Deception?
During the so-called "Drag Sunday" service, the church not only welcomed but also blessed and affirmed drag performers. Among those honored were members of the Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence, a group notorious for mocking Christianity and turning sacred symbols into props for their depraved performances. One such performer, dressed as a dog on a leash, was paraded in front of the congregation as though this were a normal and acceptable display within a church setting.
The sermon was delivered by a self-described "drag king" named Rev. Brooke Dooley, or "Brock Bottom"--a female performer who, for over a decade, has been playing with gender norms and incorporating blasphemous elements into her acts. Dooley, now a so-called minister, bemoaned her upbringing in what she called an "evangelical purity culture" and rejected fundamental biblical truths about gender, claiming that it is merely a "social construct." In reality, gender is ordained by God, as seen in Genesis 1:27: "So God created mankind in his own image, in the image of God he created them; male and female he created them."
The congregation, including children, was subjected to this perverse ideology under the guise of Christian teaching. If anything, this service was a warning to the faithful of the dangers of a church that has abandoned scriptural authority in favor of cultural conformity.
Misusing Scripture to Justify Apostasy
One of the most disturbing aspects of this event was the blatant twisting of God's Word to justify the church's agenda. During the service, the church's pastor grossly misapplied Scripture to align with their ideology, taking Jesus' words in Mark 10:27--"With God all things are possible"--and claiming that this somehow validated a drag king preacher performing on stage. This perversion of Scripture is not just ignorance; it is a calculated attempt to use God's own words as a shield for sin.
Throughout the Bible, we see clear warnings against those who manipulate God's Word for their own gain. In 2 Peter 3:16, the apostle warns that ignorant and unstable people will distort Scripture "to their own destruction." This is exactly what is happening at the Cathedral of Hope. Rather than teaching biblical truth, they are using Scripture as a prop to affirm their rebellion against God's design.
This is the danger of progressive Christianity--it does not seek to conform hearts and minds to the authority of Scripture but instead reshapes Scripture to fit personal desires. When a church elevates personal expression over divine revelation, it ceases to be a house of God and becomes a temple of idolatry.
An Adult-Themed Drag Brunch--In a Church?
If the service itself weren't disturbing enough, the Cathedral of Hope followed it up with an 18+ drag brunch, admitting that this event was so explicitly inappropriate that children were not even allowed to attend. This alone should tell us everything we need to know. If an event is unfit for children, then what place does it have in a church? The fact that they recognize the adult nature of drag performance while simultaneously forcing it into a church service proves their hypocrisy. They know this has nothing to do with worshiping God--it is about promoting a secular, leftist ideology that exalts self-expression over holiness.
A History of Blasphemy
This is far from the first time the Cathedral of Hope has openly defied biblical teaching. In September 2023, they hosted another drag blessing service in direct defiance of Texas Senate Bill 12, which sought to place reasonable restrictions on sexually explicit drag performances. They positioned themselves as a church at war with the laws designed to protect public decency, making it clear that their loyalty lies not with Christ but with the ever-changing demands of secular activists.
Additionally, they have repeatedly honored the Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence, a group of drag performers who dress as twisted caricatures of nuns and make a mockery of Christian symbols. This group is known for blasphemous public performances that desecrate the cross and the Eucharist--acts that should disgust any Bible-believing Christian. The fact that the Cathedral of Hope aligns itself with such individuals speaks volumes about the state of their so-called faith.
Jesus' Warning for Those Who Lead Children Astray
One of the most disturbing aspects of this event is the number of children present during the Drag Sunday service. Jesus had some of His harshest words for those who would lead children into sin. In Matthew 18:6, He warns: "If anyone causes one of these little ones--those who believe in me--to stumble, it would be better for them to have a large millstone hung around their neck and to be drowned in the depths of the sea."
This is not a trivial matter. A church that not only exposes children to, but actively celebrates, a movement that sexualizes and distorts God's creation is a church that has abandoned the Gospel. It is a church that has chosen the ways of the world over the ways of Christ.
A Heart of Darkness--Violence and Confusion
If there were any doubt as to the spiritual condition of those involved, one of the drag performers made a shocking threat during the brunch, stating that they would kill anyone who voted for President Trump and also made violent threats against the governor of Texas.
This kind of rhetoric exposes the true nature of this movement--it is not one of peace or love, as they so often claim, but one filled with rage, confusion, and deep spiritual turmoil. These individuals are not in need of praise; they are in need of help, deliverance, and salvation. Yet, instead of addressing their brokenness with the healing power of the Gospel, this so-called church is celebrating their lostness and affirming their rebellion.
A Call to the Faithful
The Cathedral of Hope is not just another progressive church--it is an example of what happens when the fear of man replaces the fear of God. It is a cautionary tale for every believer who values biblical truth. We must ask ourselves: Are we standing firm in the faith, or are we allowing the world to dictate what Christianity should look like?
It is imperative that Christians speak out against this blatant mockery of God's Word. Churches must not be afraid to call out false teachers and rebuke those who twist Scripture to suit their own desires.
This is a time for courage, conviction, and a return to the unshakable truth of God's Word. The Cathedral of Hope may be celebrating their Drag Sunday, but true believers know that the only name worth celebrating in the church is the name of Jesus Christ--the King of Kings, not the king of drag.
