Men Can't Breastfeed - But That Hasn't Stopped Trans Activists From Trying

In a world where technology and medicine have advanced beyond what our ancestors could ever imagine, one might hope that wisdom would have advanced alongside it. Yet increasingly, we are seeing science distorted--not in pursuit of truth or healing--but to affirm ideologies that reject the most basic realities of human biology.

One of the most disturbing developments in recent years is the growing push to normalize "chestfeeding," a term and practice promoted by transgender activists to describe male-bodied individuals--typically biological men identifying as women--attempting to feed infants using artificially induced lactation.

This bizarre and biologically incoherent practice recently made headlines in Canada. On June 4, the Region of Waterloo Public Health and Paramedic Services posted an advertisement on X  offering baby feeding clinics to help parents "breastfeed/chestfeed" their babies. The backlash was swift and fierce. Critics rightly pointed out the absurdity of the term "chestfeeding," noting that chests do not produce milk--breasts do, and only in females who possess the biological structures and hormones necessary to support natural lactation.

One commenter hit the heart of the issue: "Chests don't feed, breasts do." Others condemned the erasure of women and the dangerous conflation of medical care with ideology. The post was so thoroughly ridiculed that it was taken down within a day, having been "ratioed"--a clear sign of public rejection. Still, the post remained on Instagram and Facebook, platforms that often prioritize political correctness over common sense.

This is not an isolated event. In April, University of Regina nursing professor Dr. Shela Hirani posted a video (now deleted) promoting the idea that "transgender men and also non-binary parents" can breastfeed--or more accurately, "chestfeed"--through hormone therapy and lactation support. But what exactly does this process entail?

To induce lactation in a biological male, a potent and dangerous cocktail of drugs is typically used. These include contraceptive pills, sedatives, and drugs such as domperidone--an anti-nausea medication that has been banned in some countries for causing serious heart issues, including arrhythmias and sudden death. The U.S. FDA has explicitly warned against the use of domperidone for lactation induction, highlighting risks not only to the parent but potentially to the baby as well.

Despite these glaring dangers, activists continue to push chestfeeding as a "normal" and affirming practice. But there is nothing normal about chemically forcing a male body to imitate a female biological process. There is nothing safe about producing a synthetic milk-like substance in the absence of scientific studies verifying its nutritional safety. And there is nothing loving about subjecting a newborn infant to an experiment in gender affirmation.

The Daily Mail has reported that the very first known case of a trans woman "breastfeeding" happened as recently as 2018. Since then, cases have remained extremely rare--perhaps for good reason. There is no solid scientific consensus on whether this induced secretion even qualifies as nutritious milk. We are not talking about minor risks. We are talking about chemically altering the endocrine system of male-bodied individuals to produce secretions that are then fed to infants. This is science fiction masquerading as compassion, and it borders on medical negligence.

Worse still, this trend is just one symptom of a broader medical-industrial complex increasingly driven by gender ideology. Young people are being told that they can change their sex without consequences. But that is a lie. Cross-sex hormones and so-called gender-affirming surgeries often result in lifelong complications. These include permanent sterility, loss of sexual function, bone density issues, cardiovascular problems, and in many cases, profound regret.

Despite the claim that these procedures are "reversible," they are anything but. A mastectomy cannot be undone. The effects of puberty blockers on developing brains and bodies are not fully understood, but what we do know is alarming. Once fertility is gone, it is gone. And children and teens are being led to these decisions with the full backing of institutions that ought to be protecting them.

There was a time when the Hippocratic Oath--first, do no harm--meant something. But now, under the banner of progress and inclusivity, some practitioners are aiding the erosion of truth itself. No amount of hormones will turn a man into a mother. No amount of surgery will rewrite DNA. And no activist campaign will ever succeed in overriding the wisdom of the human body.

The "chestfeeding" push is not about helping babies. It's not even really about helping transgender individuals. It is about ideology first and foremost--an ideology that demands reality bend to desire, even when it endangers the most vulnerable among us: infants and children.

We must say no. No to the chemical manipulation of bodies for cosmetic identity. No to feeding babies untested, synthetic substances produced in hormonally altered males. No to the silencing of dissent through censorship and fear. And no to pretending that dangerous medical experiments are acts of love.

Our children--and our future--depend on our courage to speak biological truth, no matter the backlash.
