The Tragic Irony Of "Queers For Palestine": A Movement Blind To Reality

It's the kind of absurdity that would be funny if it weren't so tragic: LGBTQ+ activists in the West proudly waving Palestinian flags and chanting slogans like "One struggle, one fight: Palestine -- trans rights," while seemingly oblivious to the grim fate that would await them under the very regimes they celebrate.

This isn't just a case of ideological confusion -- it's a willful blindness that borders on delusion. And for Christian conservatives watching this unfold, it serves as a painful reminder of how untethered our culture has become from truth, reality, and moral clarity.

Let's not mince words: to be openly gay or transgender in Gaza or under the Palestinian Authority is to live in hiding -- or to flee. The Hamas-led government of Gaza, operating under strict interpretations of Sharia law, criminalizes homosexuality. Violators risk imprisonment, torture, or even execution. There are no Pride parades in Ramallah. There are no rainbow flags in Gaza City. The only time such symbols might appear is as evidence in a criminal case.

In fact, LGBTQ+ Palestinians routinely seek refuge in Israel -- the very nation so demonized by these Western activists. Israel, unlike its neighbors, has legal protections for gay citizens, hosts vibrant Pride festivals, and allows LGBTQ+ people to serve openly in its military. Yet none of this seems to register with groups like "Queers for Palestine," who instead label Israel an "apartheid state" and idolize regimes that would never allow them to exist freely.

At the recent LGBTQ+ rally in London, demonstrators vandalized statues and shouted slogans that suggested a bizarre fusion of transgender ideology with the Palestinian nationalist movement. One speaker referred to Palestine as "the strongest shining light" in a shared struggle for liberation. This, in the face of overwhelming evidence that the Palestinian territories are among the most repressive environments in the world for LGBTQ+ individuals.

Is this simply ignorance? Or something worse?

It's not just that these activists are uninformed. It's that they are so committed to their intersectional worldview -- a toxic blend of Marxist ideology, identity politics, and anti-Western sentiment -- that they have completely severed themselves from reality. They are so desperate to paint the West, and particularly Judeo-Christian societies, as evil oppressors that they're willing to align themselves with regimes that throw people like them off rooftops.

It's not just laughable -- it's suicidal.

Dr. Victor Davis Hanson was right when he described such activists as "useful Western idiots." These are people who, in the name of social justice, lend their voices to movements that seek to destroy the very freedoms they enjoy. They're not revolutionaries. They're pawns -- willingly used by radical Islamist groups and leftist ideologues alike, all in the name of "liberation."

They claim to fight for justice, but justice has no place under Hamas. They claim to fight for equality, but equality cannot exist under Sharia. They chant for freedom, but would be silenced -- or worse -- in the very lands they champion.

As conservative Christians, we must call this what it is: a tragic perversion of truth. Not only are these activists misled, but they are also misleading others. They cloak their rebellion against biblical morality in a veneer of compassion and inclusion, while propping up regimes that persecute Christians, jail dissenters, and execute LGBTQ+ individuals.

This is cognitive dissonance on steroids. It's the equivalent of marching for women's rights while celebrating the Taliban, or demanding free speech while defending North Korea.

From a biblical worldview, this kind of confusion is not surprising. Romans 1 speaks clearly of a society that, having rejected God, is "given over to a debased mind." When truth is rejected, lies flourish. When God is forgotten, man begins to worship himself -- and, inevitably, to destroy himself.

The Queers for Palestine movement is a sad, modern-day parable of this reality. It is what happens when postmodern ideology meets spiritual blindness. It is what happens when the love of rebellion replaces the love of truth.

As followers of Christ, we must respond not only with clarity, but with compassion. These individuals are not just wrong -- they are lost. They are fighting for causes that will never deliver what they promise. They are crying out for justice and peace, but looking for it in places where neither can be found.

Let us pray that the scales would fall from their eyes -- and that they would find not false liberation in radical politics, but true freedom in the gospel of Jesus Christ.

That is the only kind of liberation worth marching for.
