The relationship between a man and a woman in most Muslim countries is under the vigilant control not only of their families but also of society and the law. While most people in developed countries have long preferred to treat romantic relationships, much less marriage, as the voluntary choice of each individual, this is still not the case in some countries of the Muslim world.

The United Arab Emirates is a striking example of a state that controls the marriage processes of its citizens. Even though more than 80% of the UAE population are immigrants of different nationalities and religions, the government of the country is in no hurry to refuse or simplify its legislation or to abandon Sharia law.

Sharia law is the basis for the functioning of society in the Emirates, it is based on religious beliefs and the principles of Muslim faith and culture. That is why it is very difficult for foreigners who were brought up in a more liberal society and a different faith to understand and accept the system of rules in the UAE.

What are the difficulties of marriage in the United Arab Emirates?

Speaking of the complexities of marriage in the UAE, two aspects can be immediately highlighted:

  • Binding. By this wording we mean the fact that if you want to live with your partner under the same roof and have children, you must be legally married in order not to violate the laws of the Emirates. It is also worth noting that under the word "partner" one can only be a partner of the opposite sex - male/female. Homosexual relationships and marriages are considered illegal and can be the cause of judicial imprisonment.
  • Number of bureaucratic processes. Marriage requires several conditions to be met and here are just a few of them:
    • Citizenship or residency for at least one of the partners.
    • If you want a traditional religious marriage, you must practice Islam.
    • Mandatory medical examination.
    • Permission to marry from the father or guardian of the bride.

How to marry a citizen of the United Arab Emirates and a foreigner?

And right away we would like to point out that the policy of the UAE kingdom itself does not encourage such a phenomenon as inter-ethnic marriages. Not that they will stand in your way and forbid you to get married, but no one will facilitate the process. So you should prepare for the collection of documents and all the other peripeteia.

If you received a refusal to marry or do not want for some reason to register the relationship in the Emirates, you can use an alternative - to get married in a third country or not in the home country of the foreign partner, if the law in his country puts forward more relaxed requirements for the wedding.

One of the countries often used by Emiratis to marry foreigners in Georgia.

This is due to the possibility of visiting the country without having a visa, low prices for wedding services, beautiful views, and most importantly – the possibility of getting married in 24 hours for foreign nationals.

For an all-inclusive wedding in Georgia, you will need:

  • Notarized translation of your passport into Georgian.
  • Apply for marriage registration.
  • Arrive at the House of Justice on the appointed day.
  • Bring two witnesses.

As you can see, getting married in Georgia is quite convenient and almost an ideal opportunity for a UAE citizen and a foreigner to get married. For more information on getting married in Tbilisi, contact the «Shu Wedding» Agency.
