Psalms 1
(1) Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor standeth in the way of sinners, nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful.
(2) But his delight is in the law of the LORD; and in his law doth he meditate day and night.
(3) And he shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that bringeth forth his fruit in his season; his leaf also shall not wither; and whatsoever he doeth shall prosper.
(4) The ungodly are not so: but are like the chaff which the wind driveth away.
(5) Therefore the ungodly shall not stand in the judgment, nor sinners in the congregation of the righteous.
(6) For the LORD knoweth the way of the righteous: but the way of the ungodly shall perish.

Blessed
A man is blessed by what he does not do, and by what he does do.

Not being a companion of the ungodly.
Delighting and meditating daily on the law of God.

Not uprooted as to bear no fruit, or broken & scattered by blistering winds.
Firmly planted, and renewed with living waters, bearing fruit always.

Psalms 2
(1) Why do the heathen rage, and the people imagine a vain thing?
We have all asked this question.

(2) The kings of the earth set themselves, and the rulers take counsel together, against the LORD, and against his anointed, saying,
We all wonder why so many conspire against God.

(3) Let us break their bands asunder, and cast away their cords from us.
We all ponder why anyone would want to have nothing to do with God.

(4) He that sitteth in the heavens shall laugh: the Lord shall have them in derision.
Ahhh, the vanity of man; to even think they could stand up to God.
    What a joke!

(5) Then shall he speak unto them in his wrath, and vex them in his sore displeasure.
You KNOW you are in deep trouble when your father speaks in that certain tone, and puts you in your place!
You shake, you tremble, and wonder what is going to happen next.

(6) Yet have I set my king upon my holy hill of Zion.
(7) I will declare the decree: the LORD hath said unto me, Thou art my Son; this day have I begotten thee.
He tells who is in charge (and it ain‘t none of them self appointed earth rulers).

(8) Ask of me, and I shall give thee the heathen for thine inheritance, and the uttermost parts of the earth for thy possession.
Whoops. All those mighty rulers, who THOUGHT they were in charge, are being handed over to the REAL one in charge.

(9) Thou shalt break them with a rod of iron; thou shalt dash them in pieces like a potter's vessel.
Go ahead, make my day, you puny little ungrateful, pious, egotistical bums!

(10) Be wise now therefore, O ye kings: be instructed, ye judges of the earth.
Listen up, I’ll give you a chance to back down before I lay the hammer down.

(11) Serve the LORD with fear, and rejoice with trembling.
    Is that so hard?

(12) Kiss the Son, lest he be angry, and ye perish from the way, when his wrath is kindled but a little. Blessed are all they that put their trust in him.
We can do this the easy way, or the hard way. You decide.

Psalms 3
A Psalm of David, when he fled from Absalom his son.

Absalom was a son of his father the King. He wanted to take over the throne of his father.
    This might sound familiar.

Angels are called sons of God.
And one of these sons in particular thought to do the same.

      Isaiah 14
      (12) How art thou fallen from heaven, O Lucifer, son of the morning! how art thou cut down to the ground, which didst weaken the nations!
      (13) For thou hast said in thine heart, I will ascend into heaven, I will exalt my throne above the stars of God: I will sit also upon the mount of the congregation, in the sides of the north:
      (14) I will ascend above the heights of the clouds; I will be like the most High.

(1) LORD, how are they increased that trouble me! many are they that rise up against me.
(2) Many there be which say of my soul, There is no help for him in God. Selah.
Many like to say this about someone who is not prosperous, or healthy, or living a peaceful life.
Why do we say things like that?
We look at the conditions that surround us, instead of the inner heart of the person.

It was the same for Job.
His so called “friends” thought God had abandoned him. God just wouldn’t allow things like that to happen to the faithful.
    They were wrong.

It was the same for Jesus.
The crowds around the cross thought God had abandoned him. God just wouldn’t allow things like that to happen to the faithful.
    They were wrong.

Both, Job and Jesus, went through great tribulation, but remained faithful.

(3) But thou, O LORD, art a shield for me; my glory, and the lifter up of mine head.
    Ahh, the shield.
The shield is one of the defensive garments of the whole armor of the Lord.

      Ephesians 6
      (13) Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.
      (14) Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth, and having on the breastplate of righteousness;
      (15) And your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace;
      (16) Above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked.
      (17) And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God:

(4) I cried unto the LORD with my voice, and he heard me out of his holy hill. Selah.
(5) I laid me down and slept; I awaked; for the LORD sustained me.
Ooooo, that sweet sleep of rest and refreshing.
(Sue, you and I can relate to this …. hehe! Being the nappers that we are.)

He maketh me to lie down in green pastures. He restoreth my soul.
Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me

(6) I will not be afraid of ten thousands of people, that have set themselves against me round about.
    Luke 12
    (4) And I say unto you my friends, Be not afraid of them that kill the body, and after that have no more that they can do.

(7) Arise, O LORD; save me, O my God: for thou hast smitten all mine enemies upon the cheek bone; thou hast broken the teeth of the ungodly.
(8) Salvation belongeth unto the LORD: thy blessing is upon thy people. Selah.
    Job said something similar:
      Job 29
      (17) And I brake the jaws of the wicked, and plucked the spoil out of his teeth.

Psalm 22

His work for our salvation. Pray Pray Pray

1 My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me? Why art thou so far from helping me, and from the words of my roaring?

6 But I am a worm, and no man;
a reproach of men, and despised of the people.

7 All they that see me laugh me to scorn:
they shoot out the lip, they shake the head,

8 He trusted on the LORD that he would deliver him:
let him deliver him, seeing he delighted in him. Mt. 27.43

11 Be not far from me; for trouble is near;
for there is none to help.

12 Many bulls have compassed me:
strong bulls of Bashan have beset me round.

13 They gaped upon me with their mouths,
as a ravening and a roaring lion.

14 I am poured out like water,
and all my bones are out of joint:
my heart is like wax;
it is melted in the midst of my bowels.

15 My strength is dried up like a potsherd;
and my tongue cleaveth to my jaws;
and thou hast brought me into the dust of death.

16 For dogs have compassed me:
the assembly of the wicked have inclosed me:
they pierced my hands and my feet.

17 I may tell all my bones:
they look and stare upon me.

18 They part my garments among them,
and cast lots upon my vesture.

The reward of his suffering. Pray dance

23 Ye that fear the LORD, praise him;
all ye the seed of Jacob, glorify him;
and fear him, all ye the seed of Israel.

24 For he hath not despised nor abhorred the affliction of the afflicted;
neither hath he hid his face from him;
but when he cried unto him, he heard.

25 My praise shall be of thee in the great congregation:
I will pay my vows before them that fear him.

26 The meek shall eat and be satisfied:
they shall praise the LORD that seek him:
your heart shall live for ever.

27 All the ends of the world shall remember and turn unto the LORD:
and all the kindreds of the nations shall worship before thee.

28 For the kingdom is the LORD's:
and he is the governor among the nations.

29 All they that be fat upon earth shall eat and worship:
all they that go down to the dust shall bow before him:
and none can keep alive his own soul.

30 A seed shall serve him;
it shall be accounted to the Lord for a generation.

31 They shall come, and shall declare his righteousness
unto a people that shall be born, that he hath done this.

Psalms 4
To the chief Musician on Neginoth, A Psalm of David.

(1) Hear me when I call, O God of my righteousness: thou hast enlarged me when I was in distress; have mercy upon me, and hear my prayer.
David cries out to the only one he knows can help.
    The God of his righteousness.
David knows that it is not his own righteousness that sustains him, but the righteousness of the Lord.
    He asks for mercy.
David knows that for God to help any man (sinner) would be a act of mercy.

(2) O ye sons of men, how long will ye turn my glory into shame? how long will ye love vanity, and seek after leasing? Selah.
(3) But know that the LORD hath set apart him that is godly for himself: the LORD will hear when I call unto him.
(4) Stand in awe, and sin not: commune with your own heart upon your bed, and be still. Selah.
    Ecclesiastes 12
    (13) Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter: Fear God, and keep his commandments: for this is the whole duty of man.

    1 John 3
    (21) Beloved, if our heart condemn us not, then have we confidence toward God.

(5) Offer the sacrifices of righteousness, and put your trust in the LORD.
    Hebrews 13
    (16) But to do good and to communicate forget not: for with such sacrifices God is well pleased.

(6) There be many that say, Who will shew us any good? LORD, lift thou up the light of thy countenance upon us.
    2 Peter 3
    (3) Knowing this first, that there shall come in the last days scoffers, walking after their own lusts,
    (4) And saying, Where is the promise of his coming? for since the fathers fell asleep, all things continue as they were from the beginning of the creation.

    Acts 2
    (28) Thou hast made known to me the ways of life; thou shalt make me full of joy with thy countenance.

(7) Thou hast put gladness in my heart, more than in the time that their corn and their wine increased.
    Romans 15
    (13) Now the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, that ye may abound in hope, through the power of the Holy Ghost.

(8) I will both lay me down in peace, and sleep: for thou, LORD, only makest me dwell in safety.
    Isaiah 57
    (1) The righteous perisheth, and no man layeth it to heart: and merciful men are taken away, none considering that the righteous is taken away from the evil to come.
    (2) He shall enter into peace: they shall rest in their beds, each one walking in his uprightness.

    1 Thessalonians 5
    (10) Who died for us, that, whether we wake or sleep, we should live together with him.

Psalms 5
To the chief Musician upon Nehiloth, A Psalm of David.

(1) Give ear to my words, O LORD, consider my meditation.
Hear the words, consider my mediation (thoughts).

Sometimes it is hard to put your thoughts into words.
    God can read your thoughts.
His Spirit helps to relay those thoughts into the words that we do not know how to say.

      Romans 8
      (26) Likewise the Spirit also helpeth our infirmities: for we know not what we should pray for as we ought: but the Spirit itself maketh intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered.

So, don’t worry about not having the proper or formal words to say, just bare your soul to the Lord.
He’ll straighten it all out for you.

(2) Hearken unto the voice of my cry, my King, and my God: for unto thee will I pray.
(3) My voice shalt thou hear in the morning, O LORD; in the morning will I direct my prayer unto thee, and will look up.
Breakfast is the most important meal of the day. It has been proven that it helps to sustain a healthy mind and body for the day.

Prayer, first thing in the morning, will do the same for your soul.

(4) For thou art not a God that hath pleasure in wickedness: neither shall evil dwell with thee.
(5) The foolish shall not stand in thy sight: thou hatest all workers of iniquity.
(6) Thou shalt destroy them that speak leasing: the LORD will abhor the bloody and deceitful man.
We are going to hear a lot about this in the Psalms.
It’s a statement of fact that we should always be conscience of.

(7) But as for me, I will come into thy house in the multitude of thy mercy: and in thy fear will I worship toward thy holy temple.
This is a bold statement for David to make.
He KNOWS he will inhabit the house of the Lord.
Is it because he has been such a good and perfect person?
    No.
It is by his faith that God will be merciful.

(8) Lead me, O LORD, in thy righteousness because of mine enemies; make thy way straight before my face.
Notice whose righteousness he wants to be led by.
    THY righteousness, not MY righteousness.

(9) For there is no faithfulness in their mouth; their inward part is very wickedness; their throat is an open sepulchre; they flatter with their tongue.
This reminds me of what Jesus said to the Pharisees:
      Matthew 23
      (27) Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye are like unto whited sepulchres, which indeed appear beautiful outward, but are within full of dead men's bones, and of all uncleanness.

You may flatter yourself with all your so-called righteous deeds, and always point them out for others to take note of.
But the truth is, it is not YOUR righteousness that sets you free.
All your righteous deed are as filthy rags (Isaiah 64:6).
And all your boastings are as dead words.

(10) Destroy thou them, O God; let them fall by their own counsels; cast them out in the multitude of their transgressions; for they have rebelled against thee.
(11) But let all those that put their trust in thee rejoice: let them ever shout for joy, because thou defendest them: let them also that love thy name be joyful in thee.
(12) For thou, LORD, wilt bless the righteous; with favour wilt thou compass him as with a shield.
    Sheep and goats.
    Wheat and tares.

We need more of the first, than the second.

Plant them seeds folks, plant them seeds!

Psalms 6
To the chief Musician on Neginoth upon Sheminith, A Psalm of David.

(1) O LORD, rebuke me not in thine anger, neither chasten me in thy hot displeasure.
(2) Have mercy upon me, O LORD; for I am weak: O LORD, heal me; for my bones are vexed.
(3) My soul is also sore vexed: but thou, O LORD, how long?
(4) Return, O LORD, deliver my soul: oh save me for thy mercies' sake.
(5) For in death there is no remembrance of thee: in the grave who shall give thee thanks?
(6) I am weary with my groaning; all the night make I my bed to swim; I water my couch with my tears.
(7) Mine eye is consumed because of grief; it waxeth old because of all mine enemies.
(8) Depart from me, all ye workers of iniquity; for the LORD hath heard the voice of my weeping.
(9) The LORD hath heard my supplication; the LORD will receive my prayer.
(10) Let all mine enemies be ashamed and sore vexed: let them return and be ashamed suddenly.

We do not know why David thinks the Lord is displeased with him.
It could possibly be of his deceit in ridding the husband of Bathsheba so he could have her.

He is not only physically sickly, but his soul is in distress also.

Is the Lord inflicting his body and soul as punishment?
    Could be.
Then again, if we remember the story of Job; he also was vexed of body and soul.
But we know that it was not God inflicting it upon him as punishment.

David also tells us in verse 7 that it is “because of all mine enemies”.

Can the faithful be in a like situation as David or Job?
    You bet.

      Matthew 5
      (45) That ye may be the children of your Father which is in heaven: for he maketh his sun to rise on the evil and on the good, and sendeth rain on the just and on the unjust.

Ever hear of anyone saying that if you are down and sick, it is because you don’t have enough faith?
Apparently they skipped the portions in scripture about David and Job.

When someone you know is down or sick, comfort them.
Don’t speculate on WHY they are in the situation they are in; just comfort them.
And help them cry out to the Lord for relief.

John 9:1-3 (King James Version)

John 9
1And as Jesus passed by, he saw a man which was blind from his birth.

2And his disciples asked him, saying, Master, who did sin, this man, or his parents, that he was born blind?

3Jesus answered, Neither hath this man sinned, nor his parents: but that the works of God should be made manifest in him.

Amen Kathleen.

Not all infirmities are punishment for sin.
And not all floods, tornados, volcano eruptions, ect. are punishment for sin.

Psalms 7
Shiggaion of David, which he sang unto the LORD, concerning the words of Cush the Benjamite.

I do not know who Cush the Benjamite is.
King Saul who persecuted David was a Benjamite, but he was the son of Kish.

(1) O LORD my God, in thee do I put my trust: save me from all them that persecute me, and deliver me:
(2) Lest he tear my soul like a lion, rending it in pieces, while there is none to deliver.
Whoever this guy is, he is persecuting David big time.

(3) O LORD my God, if I have done this; if there be iniquity in my hands;
(4) If I have rewarded evil unto him that was at peace with me; (yea, I have delivered him that without cause is mine enemy:)
(5) Let the enemy persecute my soul, and take it; yea, let him tread down my life upon the earth, and lay mine honour in the dust. Selah.
Apparently this fellow has accused David of dong wrong.

Here is where I think this fellow is a possible kinsman of Saul.
Saul was killed by one of David’s men, but not at the command of David.
David would not kill Saul. David slipped into the tent of Saul one night and cut off a piece of his clothing to show Saul that he had opportunity to kill him, but would not.

This fellow could possible be out to avenge Saul, and wrongly blamed David for his death.
But this is just my speculation.

David is so sure of his innocence, that he says to go ahead and let the guy kill him if he is guilty.

Even been so sure of your innocence that you say something like, “May lightening strike me dead”?

(6) Arise, O LORD, in thine anger, lift up thyself because of the rage of mine enemies: and awake for me to the judgment that thou hast commanded.
Notice something here.
David leaves vengeance of his enemies to the Lord.
He call on the Lord to execute judgment for the unlawful treatment he is suffering.

(7) So shall the congregation of the people compass thee about: for their sakes therefore return thou on high.
(8) The LORD shall judge the people: judge me, O LORD, according to my righteousness, and according to mine integrity that is in me.
David also recognizes that God will judge all.
He has asked for judgment of his enemy, therefore he and his people must be willing to be judged.

“Judge not lest ye be judged.”
Whatever judgment you use to judge other will be the judgment you are judged by.

David leaves the judgment to God, who will judge rightly.

(9) Oh let the wickedness of the wicked come to an end; but establish the just: for the righteous God trieth the hearts and reins.
(10) My defence is of God, which saveth the upright in heart.
God judges the hearts of man.

The law can be disobeyed, if the motive of the heart is right.
    EXAMPLE:
A priest gives hungry David and his men the holy shewbread of the temple to eat.

You can also obey the law and the motive of the heart still be wrong.
    EXAMPLE:
You hate your brother, but you don’t bludgeon him to death.

David knows that it is God who searches the heart, and can rightly judge.

(11) God judgeth the righteous, and God is angry with the wicked every day.
Did you notice those last two words? EVERY DAY.
It is important that we have a right heart EVERY DAY.

(12) If he turn not, he will whet his sword; he hath bent his bow, and made it ready.
(13) He hath also prepared for him the instruments of death; he ordaineth his arrows against the persecutors.
God uses His wrath to turn people back to Him.
If they do not, He is armed and ready.

(14) Behold, he travaileth with iniquity, and hath conceived mischief, and brought forth falsehood.
    James 1
    (14) But every man is tempted, when he is drawn away of his own lust, and enticed.
    (15) Then when lust hath conceived, it bringeth forth sin: and sin, when it is finished, bringeth forth death.

(15) He made a pit, and digged it, and is fallen into the ditch which he made.
(16) His mischief shall return upon his own head, and his violent dealing shall come down upon his own pate.
    Reap what you sow.

(17) I will praise the LORD according to his righteousness: and will sing praise to the name of the LORD most high.

Psalms 8
To the chief Musician upon Gittith, A Psalm of David.

(1) O LORD our Lord, how excellent is thy name in all the earth! who hast set thy glory above the heavens.
(2) Out of the mouth of babes and sucklings hast thou ordained strength because of thine enemies, that thou mightest still the enemy and the avenger.
This has reflections of David’s youth.
The shepherd boy God used to defy the giant Philistine, Goliath.

While all the mighty soldiers of Israel’s army cowered at the sight of Goliath, it was this youth that knew if God be with Israel, then no enemy stood a chance against them.
The size and fierceness of this enemy did not hinder the faith of this youth.

Goliath mocked this youth. How dare such a small insignificant boy think he had a chance against the might of Goliath.

David told Goliath that is was the God of Israel that he was laughing at and saying was insignificant.

David pretty much told Goliath that he had best wipe that smirk off his face!!!!
The God of Israel was the only one that deserved any praise.

Through the weak God demonstrates His strength.

Jesus quotes verse 2 in Matthew 21.

      Matthew 21
      (14) And the blind and the lame came to him in the temple; and he healed them.
      (15) And when the chief priests and scribes saw the wonderful things that he did, and the children crying in the temple, and saying, Hosanna to the Son of David; they were sore displeased,
      (16) And said unto him, Hearest thou what these say? And Jesus saith unto them, Yea; have ye never read, Out of the mouth of babes and sucklings thou hast perfected praise?

Jesus was healing the weak. And even the youth recognized the magnitude of Jesus, and who deserved the praise (just as David did).

(3) When I consider thy heavens, the work of thy fingers, the moon and the stars, which thou hast ordained;
(4) What is man, that thou art mindful of him? and the son of man, that thou visitest him?
Who hasn’t looked at the vast stars of a clear night, and thought of how insignificant little ‘ol man was compared to the magnitude of the universe?

But of all the powerful forces in the universe, God became a little ‘ol man to defeat the enemy.

(5) For thou hast made him a little lower than the angels, and hast crowned him with glory and honour.
This is the only place I know of where “elohiym” is translated “angels”.

(6) Thou madest him to have dominion over the works of thy hands; thou hast put all things under his feet:
(7) All sheep and oxen, yea, and the beasts of the field;
(8) The fowl of the air, and the fish of the sea, and whatsoever passeth through the paths of the seas.
Man was created for this purpose.

And just as Esau sold his birthright to Jacob for a taste of soup, man (Adam) sold his birthright for a taste of forbidden fruit.

(9) O LORD our Lord, how excellent is thy name in all the earth!
    Amen.
